Gen Re Releases 2018 U.S. Individual Disability Market Survey Results
PORTLAND, Maine--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 28, 2019--
Gen Re’s recently released U.S. Individual Disability Market Survey reveals overall positive results in 2018 for the 15 participating companies. Total in-force premium, which includes Non-Cancelable (Non-Can), Guaranteed Renewable (GR) and Buy-Sell products, increased 2.1%, representing $4.8 billion. Meanwhile, total new sales premium increased 2.8%, reaching $413 million.
Additional highlights from this annual benchmark report include:
- Non-Can in-force premium increased 1.8% to $4.1 billion and represents 85% of total in-force premium. GR in-force premium grew 4.6% to $652 million while Buy-Sell fell 3.1% to $58 million.
- Non-Can and GR new sales premium grew 2.2% and 6.2%, respectively, while Buy-Sell sales premium declined 3.2%.
- The total number of in-force policies remained level, increasing less than one percent (0.9%). However, total new policies increased 13%, due mainly to an uptick of 31% in GR policies.
