Pedestrian in critical condition after being hit by car

November 10, 2018

A woman was in critical condition Friday after she was struck by a car in northeast Fort Wayne.

Police were called at 6:11 p.m. to the intersection of St. Joe Road and Canterbury Boulevard, where they found the woman pinned underneath a Pontiac Vibe. She was freed after witnesses and firefighters lifted the car off her.

The woman apparently tried to walk east, across St. Joe Road, at the same time the driver of the Vibe : who was stopped at a red light to leave the Canterbury Green apartment complex : began to make a southbound turn, according to a news release.

“The driver did not see the pedestrian and struck her with the vehicle, dragging her several feet before coming to a stop,” the release states.

Neither the female driver nor the victim, who was taken to a hospital in critical condition, was identified by police.

The driver was not injured and neither speed nor alcohol appeared to be factors in the accident, police said.

Anyone who saw the accident can call the Fort Wayne Police Department at 427-1222 with information.
