Boston’s Lewis Returns From DL

July 15, 2000

BOSTON (AP) _ Red Sox outfielder Darren Lewis returned from the disabled list Friday and went straight into the starting lineup.

Lewis started in right field and batted ninth against the New York Mets.

Lewis went on the injured list with a strained left hamstring on July 1.

Manager Jimy Williams threw Lewis batting practice before the game and said Lewis told him he was 100 percent.

Lewis is slumping, with just one hit in his last 27 at bats before an infield single in the fifth inning.

Infielder Dernell Stenson was optioned to Pawtucket to make room for Lewis.
