Boback Retains Seat By Defeating Jasikoff

State Rep. Karen Boback retained her seat in the 117th Legislative District on Tuesday, easily defeating Libertarian challenger Lou Jasikoff, according to unofficial election results. Boback, a Republican from Harveys Lake serving her sixth term, swept up nearly 82 percent of the vote — 30,530 to Jasikoff’s 6,790 — with 53 of 73 precincts reporting. The win wasn’t unexpected, as the makeup of registered voters in the 117th Legislative District is 54 percent Republican, 34 percent Democratic and 12 percent other. Still, Boback said she was “elated” with the victory and the sheer number of constituents who came out to support her. “It’s humbling and it tells me I should continue to do what I’ve been doing, and to expand on the programs for my constituency.” said Boback, who was celebrating with family and supporters at Leggio’s Italian Restaurant in Dallas. Some of those programs include programs and expos for senior citizen and veterans, and academic leadership programs at the high schools within the district. “Obviously by the numbers that came in, it tells me I’m on the right track,” she said. Jasikoff, of Factoryville, could not be reached for comment. Tuesday was the second time in as many years that Boback defeated Jasikoff. After losing the general election in 2016, Jasikoff had said he had been “laying the groundwork for two years from now.” Green Party member John Sweeney also was on the 117th district ballot that year.
