Omaha man found guilty in speedboat incident
An Omaha man has been fined $150 in Cass County Court after being found guilty of reckless or negligent driving of a speedboat during an incident in which four teenage girls were injured.
Steven Koller, 47, the boat driver , pleaded no contest to the charge Wednesday and was found guilty by the judge.
The girls, three of whom were 13 and one of whom was 15, were injured at Lake Waconda on May 19 when they were thrown into a rock wall from an inner tube being pulled by a speedboat. The girls were taken to the Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha and later released.
Witnesses said a powerboat “was driving at excessive speeds and made a quick turn, which threw the four girls from the tube into the rock wall on the northeast side of Lake Waconda,” according to a Cass County Sheriff’s Office report. A Nebraska Game and Parks officer investigated the incident at the lake, which is 25 miles south of Omaha.
