BALTIMORE (AP) _ Amanda Kell, broadcast editor for The Associated Press in Maryland and Delaware since 1996, has been promoted to news editor in Baltimore.

Her appointment was announced Tuesday by Denise Cabrera, AP chief of bureau for Maryland and Delaware.

Kell joined the AP in 1991 in Richmond, Va., where she rose to night supervisor.

Kell, 33, was born in Washington D.C., and grew up in Reston, Va. She attended Virginia Commonwealth University. Before joining the AP, she worked for The Daily Progress in Charlottesville, Va.

She succeeds Michael Tighe, who has joined the AP's International Desk in New York.
