COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) _ The University of South Carolina athletic department will report to the NCAA some of the expenses found by an internal audit of the department, university President James B. Holderman says.
The audit released Thursday found that the athletic department chartered an airplane and bought clothing for an athlete now involved in professional sports. If the athlete was a student at the time, the expenses could be violations of National Collegiate Athletic Association rules.
Holderman said he did not know if the athlete was a student at the university when the athletic department paid for a chartered aircraft, car rental, lodging, restaurant expenses and clothing for him.
David Berst, NCAA enforcement director, said there was not enough information in the report to determine whether a violation had occurred.
