Tuskegee Airman and retired U.S. Air Force Maj. Larry Brown Jr. of Katy was honored at the May 27 Memorial Day program at Magnolia Cemetery.

Retired U.S. Air Force Col. James Crump, who serves as chair of Tuskegee Airman National Research Committee, presented to Brown’s widow, Delores Brown, a certificate identifying Brown as a documented original Tuskegee Airman with all the rights and privileges pertaining there of.

What constitutes an original Tuskegee Airman, said Crump, is an individual who served in the U.S. Army Air Corps between March 1941 and November 1949 and who was permanently assigned to Tuskegee Airman units. The number of original combat pilots is 332, he said, with about a dozen still living.
