State Fair worker injured by falling tree limb
A worker was injured when a tree limb fell on a truck at the State Fairgrounds as Tropical Storm Michael moved through the state Thursday night.
A spokeswoman with the Department of Agriculture said Goley Boggs was injured when the tree limb fell onto a truck and trailer near Gate 5 at about 7:45 p.m.
Boggs, who was in charge of controlling Gate 5, was sleeping in a bed in a trailer when the tree fell.
Officials said Boggs was able to walk to an ambulance and was taken to WakeMed for evaluation.
“He did receive minor injuries and was transported to WakeMed. He was alert and walked to the ambulance. We are very happy he was nor injured more seriously than he was,” said State Fairgrounds Manager Kent Yelverton.
A tent nearby was also destroyed by the falling limb.
The North Carolina State Fair was originally supposed to open Thursday, but the opening was delayed until 10 a.m. Friday because of the storm.
