November 14, 2013

SYDNEY (AP) — Steven Finn improved his chances of Ashes test selection with a five-wicket haul for England to help dismiss the Cricket Australia Invitation XI for 304 on the second morning of the four-day tour match in Sydney.

After struggling on day one, Finn cleaned up the tailenders and returned 5-103 to put himself forward as a potential third seamer for England in the first test starting next Thursday in Brisbane.

The Invitation XI lost its last five wickets for 33 following a late rally on the opening day after Stuart Broad knocked over the top order.

Ryan Carters fell six runs short of his maiden first-class century when he was out first ball of the day to Broad, who returned 4-37.

Peter Nevill was adjudged caught behind off Finn for 83.
