Country Hideaway Wins at Aqueduct
NEW YORK (AP) _ Country Hideaway found running room in midstretch and overtook favored Harpia to win Aqueduct’s Saturday feature, the $150,000, First Flight Handicap for fillies and mares 3-and-older.
Anklet was third in the field of eight, another 2 1/2 lengths back.
The win was the fifth in six career starts for Country Hideaway, who covered seven furlongs in 1:23 to earn $90,000 for Ogden Phipps.
Country Hideaway returned $5.50, $2.50 and $2.30. Harpia paid $2.50 and $2.20 and Anklet was $3.50 to show.
Scatmandu clung to a narrow advantage through the final yards to post a neck victory in the co-feature, the 47th running of the $83,750 Sport Page Handicap for horses 3-and-older.
Aristotle was a stubborn runner-up in the eight-horse field. It was 1 3/4 lengths more to Watchman’s Warning.
Scatmandu went seven furlongs in 1:22:3 to earn $50,250 for Robert K. Waxman. The winner paid $7.80, $4.40 and $3, Aristotle returned $5.10 and $3.50 and Watchman’s Warning was $3.90 to show.
