Pirates Bradley to Miss Season

October 25, 2001

PITTSBURGH (AP) _ Right-hander Bobby Bradley is the fourth Pittsburgh Pirates starting pitcher or prospect to have reconstructive elbow surgery this year.

Pirates starters Francisco Cordova and Kris Benson sat out the season after having surgery, with Benson not expected back until May. Cordova, Bradley and Ryan Vogelsong, who was acquired from San Francisco in July, all will miss the 2002 season.

Bradley, the Pirates’ first-round draft pick in 1999, was 8-2 with a 2.29 ERA for Single-A Hickory in 2000 before getting hurt. Regarded as the Pirates’ top pitching prospect, he struck out 105 batters in his first 70 innings that season.

Bradley hurt his elbow in a game against Delmarva last year and had arthroscopic elbow surgery in July 2000, but was bothered by persistent elbow pain this summer.
