Boys Soccer | Lourdes continues impressive stretch
ST. LOUIS PARK — This is the kind of soccer that most expected from the Lourdes boys soccer team.
The Eagles, who had a rough start to their season, losing three of their first four games, have been sizzling of late.
That included Saturday, with Lourdes beating No. 9-ranked Benilde-St. Margaret’s 3-1 in non-conference play.
“We came out extremely focused and played without a doubt our best game of the year,” Lourdes coach Tom Kane said. “We totally dominated the first half outshooting them 8-0. We are moving the ball well and making great runs off the ball, creating multiple chances.”
Matt Steinmetz scored first for Lourdes, off a shot from the right side on an assist from Austin Loeslie.
Donovan Buss scored on a ripped shot to the upper-right corner of the net from 25 yards out off a Colton Praska assist. The final scored came with 50 seconds left in the first half as Praska scored off a through pass from Loeslie.
Benilde-St. Margaret’s got its lone goal in the second half.
“I was very pleased with the effort tonight in the oppressive heat,” Kane said. “We have made great progress in the last week, beating No. 3 Austin and then No. 9 Benilde. I’m looking forward to building on each of these victories.”
