ISU soccer: Bengals picked to finish 10th in preseason poll
Idaho State soccer finished 10th in the 2018 Big Sky Conference preseason poll, released by conference officials Tuesday morning.
Reigning conference champion Eastern Washington led the voting with 78 points after collecting eight of 10 first-place nods. The Eagles have won back-to-back championships and finished 16-6-1 last year with an 8-1-1 BSC mark.
Big Sky runner-up Northern Colorado (69) and semifinalist Montana (66) each tallied one of the remaining first-place votes to finish second and third, respectively.
Northern Arizona (51) edged Sacramento State (50) for fourth place and Portland State (43) was predicted to be the last qualifier to the tournament in sixth. Idaho (33) and Weber State (31) are the two bubble teams, while Southern Utah (20) and Idaho State (9) rounded out the voting.
The top six teams in Big Sky Conference play advance to the conference championship hosted by Weber State University in Ogden, Utah, from Oct. 31-Nov. 4.
The Bengals finished 3-14-1 in 2017 with a 1-7-1 BSC record. ISU returns six starters and 17 letter-winners and welcomes nine newcomers to the squad this season.
ISU hosts its first home exhibition match at Davis Field next Monday, Aug. 13, against Utah Valley at 1 p.m. The regular season begins Aug. 24 at UTEP.
