Australian race walker condemns ban on Russian rival
SYDNEY (AP) — Australian Olympic walk silver medalist Jared Tallent has condemned a doping ban which will allow Russian rival Sergey Kirdyapkin to keep the gold medal he won at the London Olympics and defend it at Rio de Janiero next year.
The Russian Anti Doping Agency (RUSADA) has banned Kirdyapkin for three years, two months for doping offences. But the ban doesn’t cover the London games, at which he won the 50-kilometer walk, and expires before next year’s Olympics in Brazil.
Tallent described the ban as “outrageous” and said Russia was “laughing at the world.”
