WASHINGTON (AP) _ Some smoke detectors that were wired into new homes, apartments and mobile homes from 1988 through 1990 are being recalled, because they may not sound in case of fire.

BRK Electronics Inc., of Aurora, Ill., is voluntarily recalling 10 models. The brand names and model numbers, which can be found on a label on the back of the smoke detector are:

-BRK-1839I, 2839I, 1839WI-12, 2839WI, 1839WI-M; 2839TH, 1839I12R.

-Family Gard-FG1839I, FG1839IHD.

-First Alert-SA1839WI.

The manufacturer says the 1839 or 2839 series detectors which have a yellow or orange label and an ''N'' after the model number are not affected by this recall.

Battery operated detectors also are not affected.
