New York outfielder Darryl Strawberry became the 10th player
CHICAGO (AP) _ New York outfielder Darryl Strawberry became the 10th player in baseball history and the fourth this year to have 30 home runs and 30 stolen bases in a season when he stole two bases Monday in the Mets’ 7-1 victory over the Chicago Cubs.
Strawberry and teammate Howard Johnson became the first players from the same team to reach the figures in one season. Also reaching the marks this year were Eric Davis of Cincinnati and Joe Carter of Cleveland.
Strawberry, who has a team-record 38 homers, stole his 29th base in the third inning and his 30th steal came in the eighth after his two-out single touched off a four-run rally.
