Date changed for 2020 Arizona Open bass fishing tournament

May 18, 2019

The second annual WON Bass Arizona Open fishing tournament on Lake Havasu will be held a month later than originally planned, with organizers moving the event this week.

Western Outdoor News announced the change on Monday, shifting the event from to Feb. 5-7, 2020, about a month later than the originally scheduled date.

“The hardest part, at times, is picking the right date for our Open events, based on other tournament schedules and also based on timing in between events,” the organization said in a press release. “Now that we have all the dates from (other Western U.S. circuits) we feel that moving the AZ Open date from Jan. 8-10 to Feb. 5-7, 2020 is in the events and anglers best interest.”

The inaugural event was held on Lake Havasu in early January this year, drawing 77 of the top pro bass anglers from around the nation, including top-circuit Havasu pros Dean Rojas and Roy Hawk. California’s Todd Woods topped Arizona’s Joe Uribe, Jr. for the first title, hauling in a limit of 15 bass weighing 61.95 pounds during the three-day meet.

Whether the event is still able to draw top-circuit pros at the later date is yet to be seen, with all three elite tours (Bassmaster Elite, Bass Pro Tour and FLW) typically starting their seasons from mid-January to early February.
