Reagan Replies In Verse To Summit Critics
WASHINGTON (AP) _ President Reagan offered a reply in verse Monday night to critics who say he came home empty-handed from the seven-nation economic summit meeting last week in Venice.
In his televised speech to the nation, Reagan read a bit of doggerel which goes:
″The bullfight critics, ranked in rows,
″Fill the enormous plaza full,
″But only one is there who really knows,
″And he’s the one who fights the bull.″
The president did not identify the author of the poem, which he interpolated into his prepared speech.
But he clearly thought the poet had helped him make his point: ″The truth is we came home from this summit with everything we hoped to accomplish.″
