Woman gets 9 years in prison for arson plot
TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — A Florida woman has been sentenced to nine years and two months in prison for plotting to burn down a house occupied by two adults and six children.
Court records show that 39-year-old Rashica Ford was sentenced Friday in Tampa federal court. She was convicted in June of conspiracy to commit arson.
Authorities say Ford directed her boyfriend, Jodarin Whitfield, and her brother, Herbert Pinckney, to set fire to a Sarasota home in March 2015 as retaliation for an earlier fight. The men were supposed to throw a Molotov cocktail through the victim’s bedroom window, but the window didn’t break, and only the home’s exterior burned as the occupants escaped unharmed.
Whitfield was previously sentenced to eight years and three months. Pinckney was sentenced to two years and six months.
