Beto O’Rourke appears in Austin at debut of HBO documentary about him

March 9, 2019

Possible 2020 presidential contender Beto O’Rourke just popped into a seat at the Paramount Theater in downtown Austin for the premiere of “Running with Beto,” an HBO documentary that chronicles his rise from virtual unknown to national political sensation.

O’Rourke, an El Paso Democrat who served three terms in Congress before challenging U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz in the midterm elections — in which he raised a record $80 million and lost by less than three percentage points — is expected to take part in a panel discussion after the show.

O’Rourke has been teasing speculation that he’ll seek the Democratic nomination in 2020 for three months now.

The Beto team continues to put out tantalizing emails to supporters. One new email from his deputy campaign manager says “and now I’m ready for us to bring our movement to the rest of the country.”

But still no announcement. O’Rourke confirmed in late November he was considering a campaign for the White House.
