TAMPA, Fla. (AP) _ New York Yankees right-hander Orlando Hernandez, on the 15-day disabled list with an upper back injury, threw in a 10-minute bullpen session at the team’s minor league complex on Monday.
Hernandez made his first rehab start for Triple-A Columbus last Saturday. He allowed two runs and seven hits in 5 2-3 innings. He walked one and struck out five, throwing 85 pitches.
He also pitched in a minor league intrasquad game on June 17.
Hernandez, who went on the disabled list on May 16, could rejoin the Yankees later this month, or in early July.
The Yankees’ top pick in the 2002 draft, right-hander Brandon Weeden, worked two perfect innings Monday in his professional debut in a Gulf Coast League game. The 18-year old was selected in the second round.
