England’s Van Phillips, Scotland’s Sam Torrance, Ireland’s Eamonn Darcy and France’s Benoit Teilleria had 65s.
Six players _ Englishmen Ian Poulter and Jeremy Robinson, Steen Tinning of Denmark, Pierre Fulke of Sweden, New Zealand’s Elliot Boult, Ricardo Gonzalez of Argentina and Italy’s Emanuele Canonica _ are a stroke back in the $830,000 tournament.
Lee Westwood, the European tour’s money leader, was one of 11 players to card 67s.
Among other notables to finish under par on the 6,980-yard course were Ian Woosnam of Wales at 69, and Italian Costantino Rocca, who shot a 70.
