Orem Trader Joe’s officially opening in just more than two weeks
Its been more than a year of waiting, but Trader Joe’s fans now officially have a date for the opening of the new Orem location.
Trader Joe’s announced Monday that its new Orem store would open at 8 a.m. on July 27. A ribbon-cutting will be held that morning, just before the store’s opening.
“We’re super excited for the grand opening celebration,” said Kenyan Friend-Daniel, Trader Joe’s spokeswoman. “We are still working on the fine details of the grand opening.”
According to Friend-Daniel, at about 7:50 a.m. on July 27, the captain (manager) of the store will come out and say a few words, there will be samples of food, with music and celebrating as the public is invited into the new location.
“It will be a good time,” Friend-Daniel said.
The store, which will be located at 440 E. Park Ave., was originally announced in May 2017, after rumors of a location opening in the area circulated for months.
Trader Joe’s started in 1958 as Pronto Markets — mini-markets by today’s standards. In 1969 the name changed to Trader Joe’s, reflecting the owner’s name and persona — Hawaiian shirts included.
“It is with great excitement that I look forward to the grand opening of Trader Joe’s at the University Place in Orem,” said Richard Brunst, mayor of Orem, in an email. “Many people in Utah County have awaited the day when Trader Joe’s would open up here. Trader Joe’s is a great company with a long history of selling high quality foods. I welcome them to our wonderful city.”
Trader Joe’s posted the information on the corporate website Monday afternoon.
