FOOTBALL

AMERICAN FALLS 32, SNAKE RIVER 28

American Falls clinched a playoff berth Friday with a 32-28 home win against Snake River.

Snake River led 8-0 and 16-8. American Falls tied the game 16-all by halftime, led 24-22 after three quarters and recovered an onside kick after Snake River’s last-ditch fourth-quarter touchdown to seal the win with 1 minute, 29 seconds to play.

Beavers coach Cory Hollingsworth said the last time A.F. Beat Snake River was 2008.

“We were excited,” Hollingsworth said. “It was senior night and it was conference and Snake River and a playoff berth on the line. The kids stuck together. … It was really a team effort. They did a great job.”

“Snake River shot themselves in the foot repeatedly with a mind-boggling nine offsides penalties,” Panther coach Jeb Harrison said, adding his team totaled 14 penalties on the night. “That really hurt us because it kept extending their drives.”

American Falls (3-4, 1-0 3A District 5) plays Friday at Marsh Valley for the district championship. Snake River (1-6, 0-2 3A District 5) plays Friday at Preston. Snake can only make the postseason via an at-large bid, which is determined by RPI.
