Don Harnum to get Rider job as men’s basketball coach

April 4, 1997

LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. (AP) _ Longtime assistant coach Don Harnum was chosen Thursday to replace Kevin Bannon as Rider’s basketball coach.

The selection came one day after Bannon left to take the head coaching job at Rutgers.

Harnum, 33, will be introduced at a news conference at the school on Friday morning, school officials said.

Harnum will take over a team that posted a 14-14 record this season. The Broncs went to the NCAA Tournament in 1993 and 1994.

Harnum began his coaching career as an assistant at Mendham High School before being hired at Trenton State by Bannon, first as a graduate assistant and then an assistant coach.

When Bannon left for Rider in 1989, Harnum joined him.
