MGM officials, city leaders touring casino construction site

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (AP) — MGM officials are leading a tour of their planned casino site in western Massachusetts.

MGM Springfield President Michael Mathis and other casino executives are expected to update elected officials and business and community leaders on the $950-million project during Tuesday’s tour.

Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno and City Council President Michael Fenton are among those expected to give remarks at the outset of the tour.

MGM is developing 14 acres in downtown Springfield.

The company began demolishing a former elementary school last week to make way for the complex’s parking garage.

MGM was awarded the sole resort casino license in the state’s western region. Wynn Resorts is building another resort in the Boston area.
