Iowa State, Washington State to clash in Valero Alamo Bowl
No. 13 Washington State and No. 24 Iowa State will meet in the Valero Alamo Bowl at 8 p.m. Dec. 28 at the Alamodome in San Antonio.
Washington State, coached by Mike Leach, is 10-2 and 7-2 in the Pac-12. The Cougars tied for first in the Pac-12 North but missed out on a spot in the title game by virtue of a head-to-head tiebreaker with Washington, which beat Washington State 28-15 in the team’s regular-season finale Nov. 23.
Iowa State is 8-4 overall and 6-3 in the Big 12, tied with West Virginia for third in the standings.
The Alamo Bowl had the first pick of teams from the Big 12 and Pac-12 conferences after the New Year’s Six. The 2018 season is the Alamo Bowl’s fifth year in that arrangement, which runs through 2025.
No. 4 Oklahoma was selected to the College Football Playoff to face No. 1 Alabama in the Orange Bowl after defeating Texas 39-27 on Saturday to win the Big 12 championship. No. 15 Texas was selected to the Sugar Bowl to face No. 5 Georgia.
No. 9 Washington was selected to the Rose Bowl after beating Utah 10-3 on Friday to claim the Pac-12 title. The Huskies will face No. 6 Ohio State.
