L.L. Bean Contracts Its Operators For First Time
FREEPORT, Maine (AP) _ Operators at L.L. Bean Inc. are answering the phones for AT&T during a 10- week advertising campaign promoting an 800-service, the mail-order outdoors outfitter said Wednesday.
This is the first time L.L Bean has allowed its customer service operation to be used for a special promotion, said L.L. Bean spokeswoman Catharine Hartnett.
The terms of the contract were not disclosed, Hartnett said. But all workers are remaining under the supervision of L.L. Bean managers, she added.
AT&T hired 140 L.L. Bean employees to kick off the promotion last week. Typically, L.L. Bean’s 3,500-worker customer service staff drops by two-thirds after the winter holidays.
The Freeport, Maine-based L.L. Bean is a mail-order retailer specializing in outdoor sporting goods and clothing.
