WICHITA, Kan. (AP) _ Jim Yanko pitched the first no-hitter in the National Baseball Congress World Series since 1983 as Anchorage, Alaska eliminated Clarinda, Iowa 11-0 Wednesday.
In another fourth-round elimination game, Matt Luke had three hits as Liberal, Kan., beat Seguin, Texas, 13-7.
Yanko’s no-hitter spanned only five innings because the game was shortened by the tournament’s 10-run rule.
Madison, Wis., pitchers Dan Durst and Andy Ghelfi combined for a no-hitter to beat Winston-Salem, N.C., 4-0 in 1983.
Anchorage, led by Casey Burrill’s two-run single and Brian McArn’s three- run double, scored eight runs in the third inning for a 10-0 lead.
In the Liberal-Seguin game, Scot McCloughan had two hits including a two- run triple.
Kennie Steenstra (1-0) pitched 3 1-3 scoreless innings of relief for the win. Seguin’s Keith Johnson (1-1) gave up seven runs, five of them earned, for the loss.
Marvin Clack, Doug Pettit and Coby Kerlin homered for Seguin.
Clarinda and Seguin went home with 2-2 records while Anchorage and Liberal advanced to the fifth round, each at 3-1.
