PURCHASE, N.Y. (AP) _ Atlas Air Worldwide Holdings (AAWW) on Thursday reported a second-quarter loss of $21.2 million, after reporting a profit in the same period a year earlier.

On a per-share basis, the Purchase, New York-based company said it had a loss of 83 cents. Earnings, adjusted for non-recurring costs and to account for discontinued operations, came to $1.75 per share.

The results beat Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of four analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of $1.25 per share.

The airplane leasing company and service provider posted revenue of $666.1 million in the period, which also topped Street forecasts. Three analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $636.5 million.

Atlas Air shares have increased 10 percent since the beginning of the year. The stock has increased 8 percent in the last 12 months.
