May 9, 2019

MT. PLEASANT — Three teens were killed Friday, May 3, when the sedan they were passengers in crashed into the back end of a flatbed truck.

According to the Utah Highway Patrol, a white sedan was traveling westbound on Power Plant Road, east of Mt. Pleasant at about 9:20 p.m. The car was driven by a 16-year-old unidentified female. An 18-year-old male was in the front passenger seat and two 16-year-old females were passengers in the back of the car.

A flatbed truck, driven by a 16-year-old was traveling at a slow rate of speed in front of the sedan, according to UHP. There was also a 14-year-old passenger in the truck.

UHP reports that the flatbed truck was in the path of the sedan as the sedan came over a hill. The driver of the sedan attempted to stop, but was traveling too fast.

The sedan rear-ended the truck and burst into flames, UHP reported.

The passenger in the front seat of the sedan, identified as 18-year-old Ryan Lyman from Ephraim, and one of the 16-year-old passengers in the back seat of the sedan, identified as Julie Oldroyd from Fountain Green, were killed on impact, UHP officials stated.

The second passenger in the back seat of the sedan, Kody Wheeler, 16, was taken to Sanpete Valley Hospital, where she died from her injuries.
