CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) _ Allen Iverson scored 36 points, including two late driving baskets, as the Philadelphia 76ers beat the Charlotte Hornets 100-93 on Thursday night.
Matt Harpring added 16 points to help the Sixers improve to 25-24 and end a two-game losing streak. Baron Davis led the Hornets with 23 points, and Lee Nailon had 18.
Philadelphia’s Corie Blount tipped in Dikembe Mutombo’s miss to give the 76ers a 91-89 lead with 3:43 left, and Iverson followed with a pair of off-balance runners to put the Sixers ahead 95-89.
Davis missed a 3-pointer with 23 seconds left, with the score 96-93, and Philadelphia sealed the win at the free-throw line.
With a dunk and a 3-pointer from Iverson, Philadelphia scored the first nine points of the fourth quarter to take an 84-75 lead, but Charlotte cut it to 84-83 on Davis’ layup with 6:30 left.
The Hornets led 50-47 at halftime, thanks to a 6-0 flurry in the final 1:02 of the second period.
Iverson had given the 76ers a 47-44 advantage with a 19-foot jumper with 1:29 left, but three straight Charlotte layups in a 25-second stretch _ by P.J. Brown, Davis and Bryce Drew _ completed the scoring with 37 seconds left.
Notes: Iverson was 16-of-30 from the field. On Tuesday night in a loss in Detroit, he missed his final 11 shots and finished with 26 points on 7-of-31 shooting. ... Mutombo had 17 rebounds to improve on his 13.6 career average against the Hornets.
