MIAMI BEACH, Fla. (AP) _ Former Seattle Seahawks receiver Brian Blades was arrested early Monday after fighting with a police officer, officials said.
Blades was also charged with resisting arrest with violence and disorderly intoxication.
He was later released from the Miami-Dade County Jail on $10,500 bond, with an arraignment set for Aug. 5 before Circuit Judge Cecilia Altonaga. Neither jail nor court records listed an attorney for Blades.
Police said Blades was at a bar on South Beach’s Ocean Drive when a fight broke out. Several police officers who work off duty there tried to break up the fight and Blades attacked one of them, said Miami Beach Lt. Eduardo Yero.
Four other people were also arrested, Yero said.
Blades, who lives in South Florida, played at the University of Miami and was a second-round pick in the 1988 NFL draft. He spent 11 seasons with the Seahawks, finishing his career with 581 receptions for 7,620 yards and 34 touchdowns.
In 1997, he was acquitted of manslaughter for the shooting death of his cousin, Charles Blades.
The two men had been alone when Charles was shot at Brian’s town house after a night of drinking in 1995. A jury found Blades guilty of manslaughter, but a Broward County judge later overturned the verdict, saying there was not enough evidence for a conviction.
