Cause Of Wilkes-Barre Fire Remains Undetermined

Wilkes-Barre Fire Chief Jay Delaney said Friday the cause and origin of a fire on North Main Street in the city remains undetermined.

He said Capt. Francis Evanko was working at the scene all day, but was still unable to enter the building because of the unsafe condition of the structure.

Crews battled flames at 256 N. Main St. for about two hours Thursday in extremely cold conditions. Two firefighters were injured on ice fighting the fire and went to the hospital for treatment, Delaney said Thursday.

Three residents of the home and their dog were able to safely escape the fire, but a pet cat was “unaccounted for,” the fire chief said Thursday.
