New Deadline for Lowell Census
LOWELL -- The census forms that were recently sent to residents can be returned through the first week of June. The stated deadline date of March 17 for returns is incorrect.
The city’s Election Office prepared 41,000 census forms, which were provided to Park Press in late January. Throughout February, Park Press experienced repeated translation difficulties with the forms; Lowell is the only community in the state to provide trilingual census forms.
As residents just now receive their census forms, many worried about failing to meet the stated March 17 deadline. However, census materials returned to the city will be processed up to and including the first week in June.
Recipients are still encouraged to return their materials as soon as practical.
“Although census forms are intended to be returned within 10 days of receipt, Lowell adds a deadline to aid residents with a date certain by which to return their materials,” a city press release states. “We apologize for the confusion it has caused in this case.”
