Louisiana Tech 23, Arkansas St. 0
RUSTON, La. (AP) _ Jason Cooper ran for 164 yards, Chris Boniol kicked three field goals and Louisiana Tech held Arkansas State to just 99 total yards Saturday night in a 23-0 victory over the Indians.
Donovan Leary and Eric Redmon had touchdowns for Tech (5-3), which won its 16th straight game at home. Arkansas State (1-8) was shutout for fourth time this season.
It was the Bulldogs defense, ranked fourth nationally, that controlled things from the outset, forcing three fumbles and three interceptions.
Leary’s 44-yard interception return just 4:30 into the game gave Tech a 7-0 lead. It was 17-7 at halftime on Boniol’s 52-yard field goal and a 5-yard touchdown run by Redmon that finished off a 67-yard drive.
Field goals of 28 and 42 yards by Boniol in the fourth quarter closed the scoring.
Louisiana Tech gained 237 yards rushing and 424 total yards, but had trouble converting long drives into points all game.
Twice in the first half, Tech drove inside the ASU 30, where drives stalled and Boniol misfired on field goal attempts of 37 and 34 yards.
Redmon and Cooper anchored Tech’s running game in place of Jason Davis, who was held out for disciplinary reasons after missing a Saturday morning workout. Cooper had his best game of the season, and Redmon had 64 yards on 10 carries.
