Sichuan Flooding Death Toll Rises to 367
BEIJING (AP) _ Severe flooding caused by days of torrential rainfall in Sichuan province has killed 367 people, the People’s Daily reported Thursday.
The heaviest casualties were in cities along Jialing River in eastern Sichuan, the newspaper said.
Officials say recent rains and flooding have been the most severe disaster to hit the province - China’s most populous - in eight years.
Heavy flooding also has been reported in coastal Zhejiang and Fujian provinces, in the southeastern Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region and northeastern Qinghai province.
Deaths have been reported in Jiangxi province, and other provinces along the Yangtze River have been warned to prepare for high water.
