Woman Gets $7 Million in DUI Case

November 23, 2000

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) _ A jury awarded $7 million to a woman who suffered brain damage when her car was hit broadside by a drunken driver six years ago.

Diana Mancuso, 43, who was hospitalized for three months after the 1994 accident and is unable to work, won the judgment Tuesday from a Broward County panel which found McFadden Leasing Inc. and Next Generation Inc. liable.

The driver of the sport utility vehicle that hit Mancuso’s car, Shane Peter Leanna, who was 23 at the time, served nearly two years in prison. The sport utility vehicle he was driving was owned by McFadden Leasing and leased by Next Generation, whose insurance companies were ordered by the jury to pay the damages.
