AP FACT CHECK: Trump on terrorism, taxes and Russia probe
WASHINGTON (AP) — Associated Press Fact Checks find that terrorism, taxes and the Russia probe offered fertile ground for President Donald Trump to sow confusion recently.
For one, he and fellow Republicans pitched their tax plan as middle-class relief despite the likelihood some in the middle would see higher taxes.
He also described a campaign aide snagged by the Russia probe as an obscure figure, which he wasn’t.
And Trump wrongly blamed a Democratic lawmaker for a visa lottery program that enabled the suspect in the New York truck attack to immigrate to the U.S. The visa program had bipartisan support and was far from the work of Democrat Chuck Schumer alone.
