FRANKFORT, Ky. — Now that Kentucky Attorney General Andy Beshear is running for governor, he is facing increased scrutiny over donations to his 2015 campaign. Beshear’s 2015 campaign for attorney general received donations from Tim Longmeyer, his former chief deputy who is in federal prison for accepting bribes and kickbacks and funneling some of that money to Democratic candidates and causes. Federal officials will announce a “significant law enforcement action” related to coal mine safety in western Kentucky, according to the Department of Justice. The information is under embargo. Members from the U.S. Attorney’s office in Kentucky and the Department of Labor will attend the 2:30 p.m. EDT announcement.
