HURRICANE — PipeSounds will bring a bit of magic to Hurricane as it opens its 2018-19 concert series with “Fanfares and Flourishes,” set for 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 30, at Forrest Burdette Memorial United Methodist Church.

The popular PipeSounds concert series showcases the church’s worldclass Harrah Symphonic Organ, which will be played by renowned Rodney Barbour at the Sept. 30 concert. He will be accompanied by the Lincoln Brass Quintet.

Barbour is an exceptional entertainer and he lures the audience into participation with great stories and experiences while playing traditional and contemporary music, according to a news release from PipeSounds.

The Lincoln Brass Quintet has been in existence for over 30 years and has performed for thousands of people over those years. They have presented children’s concerts as an outreach of the Huntington Symphony Orchestra and perform yearly in a fundraising effort for Habitat for Humanity in Chillicothe, Ohio. The group has also performed for weddings, churches and public concerts.

Barbour is a native of Huntington. His music experiences have been varied and unique. He was active as a trombonist playing in various bands, orchestras of Vinson and Marshall and community events such as Holiday on Ice and the Ringling Brothers-Barnum and Bailey Circus Band. After graduating from Vinson High School and Marshall University, Barbour moved to Cincinnati, where he established his career as a church musician,

concert organist, educator and entertainer.

Barbour has played organ concerts in 43 states, all provinces of Canada, Puerto Rico, Italy and England. For 11 years, he was the organist for the Cincinnati Reds at Riverfront Stadium. For 10 years, he played the Mighty Wurlitzer organ at Cincinnati’s Springdale Music Palace. He has several published works including organ music books and CDs.

This performance combining the brass ensemble and an exceptional variety of organ music will bring a new experience for concert patrons, according to the release.

There will be a reception following the concert. Directions to the church, which is located at 2848 Putnam Ave., Hurricane, are on the website www.forrestburdette.com, or call the church office, 304-562-5903. Visit PipeSounds.org for more information.
