L.I. Man a Celebrity Cantor
NEW YORK (AP) _ It won’t be just acting for David Benedict when he marries Fran Drescher and her boss Wednesday in the season finale of TV’s ``The Nanny.″
The Long Island cantor has married people both on screen and off in his 45-year career. He performed the real-life weddings of Drescher’s sister and the show’s casting director. On screen, he officiated at a wedding in the 1969 movie ``Goodbye, Columbus.″
``It was a nice blend of fact and fiction to use a cantor on the show who had such close ties to the Drescher family,″ said Charles Shaughnessy, who plays Drescher’s British boss, Maxwell Sheffield.
Benedict, 75, said ``The Nanny″ nuptials were the most fun of all the 7,700 weddings he has done.
``Fran Drescher is such a doll to work with,″ he said. ``I just love her whining laugh.″
