Nationals trade for reliever Kyle Barraclough
The Washington Nationals acquired right-handed relief pitcher Kyle Barraclough from the Miami Marlins on Wednesday in exchange for international slot value.
In his fourth season in the majors, all of them with Miami, Barraclough pitched in 61 games and finished 25. He posted 60 strikeouts, a career-best 10 saves and a career-worst 4.20 ERA, allowing 40 hits and 34 walks. He held opponents to a .295 slugging percentage
Barraclough, 28, was June’s NL Reliever of the Month, allowing only one hit to the 38 batters he faced, ringing up 12 strikeouts and going a perfect 7-for-7 in his save opportunities that month.
The Nationals will look to Barraclough to bolster their bullpen, which pitched the fourth-fewest innings of any team’s bullpen in 2018 and only averaged a pedestrian 4.05 ERA.
