Wayne State volleyball sweeps Chadron State
The Wildcats came out attacking early in the first set, taking a 6-2 lead following a Tarrin Beller service ace.
WSC extended the lead to 11-6 on a kill from Jaci Brahmer to force an Eagle timeout. WSC extended the lead to 18-8 and went on to the 25-11 first set win thanks to 16 kills and a .424 attack percentage. The second set was much closer with WSC needing a late rally to stave off the Eagles. Wayne State never trailed in the second set, but Chadron State rallied to force tie scores at 14-14 and 18-18. WSC then used a block by Jaci Brahmer and Megan Gebhardt and a service ace from Haley Kauth to take a 20-18 lead and the Wildcats scored the next five points capped by a Tarrin Beller kill to win the second set 25-18. The Wildcats led from start to finish in the third set to complete the sweep. WSC built an 11-5 lead to force a Chadron State timeout and extended the lead to 20-10 before finishing with the 25-18 set win. WSC forced nine Eagle attack errors in the set while recording 14 kills. Wayne State finished the match with a .306 attack percentage on 44 kills with 11 errors and 108 attacks. Chadron State hit .028 with 26 kills, 23 errors and 107 attacks. WSC had one more dig than CSC, 51-50, and held a 4-2 advantage in blocks. Stephens led WSC in hitting with 12 kills followed by sophomore Maddie Knobbe and Tarrin Beller with nine apiece. Sophomore Maddie Duffy paced the ’Cats in digs with 15 followed by Haley Kauth and Megan Gebhardt with nine each. Brahmer and Gebhardt each had two blocks. Wayne State returns to Northern Sun Conference play this weekend with a road trip to St. Cloud State Friday night at 6 p.m. and #5 Minnesota Duluth Saturday at 4 p.m.
