Falcons Track Star in National Spotlight

Fitchburg State University sophomore Christian McWhinnie-Armstead, of Lowell, placed 17th in the high jump with mark of 1.98 meters Friday afternoon at the 2019 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field National Championships at the Spire Institute in Geneva, Ohio.

McWinnie-Armstead entered the event ranked tenth in the country after securing his first trip to the big dance with a jump of 2.07 meters at the Jim Sheehan Memorial Invitational on April 6.

In addition, McWinnie-Armstead also claimed the MASCAC crown in the high jump with mark of 2.01 meters as Fitchburg State hosted the conference championship meet in late April, while also earning DIII All- New England honors in the event after finishing second at the 2019 DIII NE Championships with jump of 2.01 meters at Williams College in early May.
