Prosecutors: Off-duty cop was driving drunk when he crashed
WOODBRIDGE, N.J. (AP) — Authorities say an off-duty police officer was driving drunk when he crashed into another car on New Year’s Eve, injuring two people in the other vehicle.
Middlesex County prosecutors announced Wednesday that Highland Park officer Norman Brown will face two counts of assault by auto stemming from the crash in Woodbridge.
Authorities say the 44-year-old Perth Amboy man ran a stop sign as he came off the exit ramp of Route 9 around 1:40 a.m. on Dec. 31. The two people in the other car suffered undisclosed injuries and were treated at a hospital.
Brown has served on the Highland Park police force for 12 years. His status with the department wasn’t clear Wednesday, and officials didn’t return a call seeking comment.
