EAST BURKE, Vt. (AP) — A number of farmers say they intend to attend the second annual "Hemp Fest" in northern Vermont at the Burke Mountain Resort.

Organizer Eli Harrington says the festival had over 500 attendees last year and organizers expect at least a few hundred more. The Caledonian-Record reports Harrington is the co-founder of cannabis-focused media company Heady Vermont.

Harrington says the festival is a time for information gathering and sharing, and for cultivating relationships with people who are similar in the effort to make hemp a successful agricultural enterprise in Vermont.

Speakers include medical professionals, architects, doctors, farmers and entrepreneurs, and represent institutions such as the office of Sen. Bernie Sanders, the University of Vermont Agricultural Extension and the Vermont Agency of Agriculture.
