Three hurt in shooting outside apartment building in Cleveland’s Hough neighborhood

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Three men were hurt in a shooting late Thursday outside an apartment building in Cleveland’s Hough neighborhood, police said.

A 42-year-old man was grazed in the chest, a 34-year-old man was shot in the groin and a 31-year-old man was grazed in the chest just after 11 p.m. on East 93rd Street near Hough Avenue, police said.

No suspects have been identified in the shooting, according to a police report.

Two Cleveland police officers were patrolling the area when they heard approximately eight gunshots. They found several men running and yelling they’d been shot in the parking lot behind the Park Village Apartments.

A WKYC-Channel 3 news crew at the scene told police officers that they got an anonymous tip that a suspect was in a blue Mitsubishi. The officers found the car but determined the 31-year-old man was a victim in the shooting, the police report says.

The man told the officers he was drunk and could not remember anything, the police report says. He refused medical treatment.

The 42-year-old man and the 34-year-old man told investigators they were drinking in the parking lot outside the apartment building when they heard gunshots. Both took off running before they realized they’d been shot, the police report says.

The 34-year-old man asked an unknown person to drive him to Cleveland Clinic. The 42-year-old man also got a ride to the same hospital, the police report says.

Gunshots also struck a woman’s silver 2005 Toyota Prius. The woman told police officers that she saw a car driving with its headlights off prior to the shooting, but she could not provide a description of the vehicle.

Investigators found eight bullet casings on the ground in the parking lot, the police report says.
