No injuries in oil field saltwater disposal site explosion
WATFORD CITY, N.D. (AP) — No one was hurt in an explosion at an oil field saltwater disposal site near Watford City.
McKenzie County Emergency Manager Karolin Jappe says one man was at the site at the time of Thursday’s explosion, but he was not injured.
The Bismarck Tribune reports the explosion happened at a White Owl Energy Services site.
Authorities don’t know what caused the explosion and fire. Jappe says fires at salt water disposal sites usually happen in the summer, when lightning hits.
Jappe says the fire will be allowed to burn out. When no other structures or people are in danger, she says putting out the fire can cause salt water to contaminate the ground, leading to an expensive cleanup.
The incident has been reported to the North Dakota Department of Health.
